ANIMALS COME TO LIFE IN THESE BOOKS

Title: Farmer Duck

Summary:

Farmer Duck takes care of a farm. He is hardworking. The farmer is lazy and stays in bed all day. When the farmer asks Farmer Duck, "How goes the work?," the duck answers, "Quack!" Farmer Duck washes dishes, irons, fetches eggs, digs up plants and saws logs. While he works, the farmer gets fat while he stays in bed. Poor Farmer Duck is overworked. His other animal friends-- the sheep, the cow and the chickens----have a plan to get rid of the farmer. Farmer Duck does not hear, "How goes the work?" anymore. You will have to read the book to see how the animals communicated, and how they did away with the farmer.

Children of this age will love this book. The illustrations are big, and there are few words on the page. Once you start reading this book, your child will have to read it to the end to find out the outcome. There is a big picture of a duck hoeing or raking dirt on the front cover. Your child's curiosity will peak, just like mine did.




Title: Harry, The Dirty Dog

Summary:

Harry is a white dog with black spots. He does not like to take a bath. So he hides the scrub brush in the backyard. He runs away, gets dirty where the men are repairing the street, plays at the railroad and gets even dirtier. Harry becomes dirtier still when he plays tag with the other dogs. After sliding down a coal chute, Harry changes to a black dog with white spots. Feeling hungry, Harry goes home and hides in the backyard. "There's a strange dog in our backyard," a family member says. Harry tries to do tricks, but the family doesn't believe it's him. Harry then finds the scrub brush he hid, dashes up the stairs and jumps into the bathtub. Brother and sister give Harry a scrubbing, and they realize that the dog is Harry----a white dog with black spots.

This book has wonderful illustrations. The cover of the book is intriguing. Children like to read about animals, and Harry, the Dirty Dog, is quite
amusing. The ending is a happy one.
