Celebrations
Dear Readers,
I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day. Our family of seven celebrated at Mom's house with baked ziti, meatballs, a mixed salad, cookies, cake and soda. My brother, Vinny, cooked the delicious food. It was a great family get-together.
Two days later, we celebrated Mom and Dad's 63rd Wedding Anniversary. Again, seven of us celebrated their good fortune.
Four days later, we celebrated Cousin Vincenzo's First Holy Communion at Juliano's in New Rochelle. It was a fantastic reunion of family, cousins, friends, aunts, uncles, and of course, children, many of them. Juliano's is the perfect place to celebrate a special occasion---the atmosphere is nice, the place is immaculate, the food is very, very tasty and carefully prepared, and of course, the fruit platter, the cookies, and finally the cake were delicious. God bless Vincenzo, and his sister, Olivia, and their proud parents, Olimpia and Vincenzo.
The next holiday will be Memorial Day when my brother barbecues for the family.
I shall write about this holiday on my next post.
In the meantime, have your child visit the library and take out books he enjoys reading. Read aloud to them. Have them read silently. Discuss the book you are reading, together, the pictures, the colors. Always ask your child, "What do you think is going to happen next?" before turning the page.

Writing this week is the key.
Dear Readers,
I hope everyone has had a Happy Passover and or Happy Easter.
The weather has been sort of a mystery: some days hot, some cool, some rainy, some windy. You never know that it might snow. My aunt and uncle were married in April, 1956, and a blizzard swept our area.
Do you think we are going to get a very hot summer? Perhaps.
My niece is getting married to a fireman in three days. My wife and I are so happy for them, and we can't wait to share in their celebration.
We're going to see the play, GHOST, soon, and we hope it will be as good as the movie. My wife and I have seen the movie numerous times.
Instead of giving you a summary of some of the best children's books you can read to your child, or your child can read silently, I have a writing assignment for you to give them: Ask your child to write a story using all the colorful words in this text.
I'll see you in two weeks with a review of some interesting children's picture books.

World Wildlife Fund and Some Interesting Picture Books to Read
Dear Parents,

to donate. Or, you may call the adoption line at (800)-call-WWF.
For $75. or more, you can get a WWF bag free (a blue tote).
When you donate to adopt an animal, your child can select one of the endangered baby animals, like a pygmy elephant or a panda bear, from a collection of baby animals. The animals are soft and cuddly. My wife, Anna, and I donate to this worthy cause.
The following are picture books your child would love to read:
1. Being Friends- Karen Beaumont. Illustrated by Joy Allen, 2002.
2. Who is the Beast?- Keith Baker, 1990.
3. Ducky-Eve Bunting. Illustrated by David Wisniewski, 1997.

5. Rumble in the Jungle-Britta Teckentrup, 1997.
6. Meet the Dogs of Bedlam Farm- Jon Katz, 2011

Good Christmas picture books to read
Dear Parents,
Books about Christmas are published quite often. Below is a list of some of the older ones about Christmas that your child would enjoy:
1. B is for Bethlehem: A Christmas Story-Written by Isabel Wilner and illustrated by Elsa Kleven. Published by Dutton in 1990, the author relates the story of the Nativity, using an alphabet of rhymed couplets.
2.A Christmas Carol-Written by Charles Dickens and illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman. Published in cloth and in paper by Holiday House in 1983,
this book is familiar and is a good read-aloud book for your children.
3.The Night Before Christmas-Written by Clement C. Moore and illustrated
by Anita Lobel. Published in cloth and paper by Knopf in 1984, the story is in verse and is familiar with children around the globe.
4.How the Grinch Stole Christmas-Written and illustrated by Dr. Seuss. Published by Random House in 1957, children all over the world know the story of the true meaning of Christmas.
5. The Polar Express-Written and illustrated by Chris Van Allsburg. Published by Hougton Mifflin in 1985, this is a very magical book with colorful illustrations.
6. The Twelve Days of Christmas-Written and illustrated by Jan Brett. Published in cloth by Putnam in 1986, children will enjoy this version of the Christmas carol.
7.An Amish Christmas-Written by Richard Ammon and illustrated by Pamela Patrick. Published in cloth by Atheneum in 1996, this is the story of a holiday celebration in an Amish community.

Yesterday, we celebrated THREE KINGS' DAY. What were the names of the three kings, and what gifts did they bring to the Baby Jesus?
It's a New Year and I wish everyone a Blessed, Healthy and Happy New Year.
Don't forget to pray for peace in the world, our soldiers overseas, food, clothing and shelter for the hungry and the homeless, Pope Benedict, Archbishop Timothy Dolan who will become a Cardinal, good health and peace in your family and the poor.
