Mixup in the Laundromat/Playground Chat
Dear Readers,
Did you guess from the clues I gave you about the two picture books I briefly mentioned last week?
The first one is:
Title: KNUFFLE BUNNY TOO
Author: Mo Willems
Publisher: Hyperion Books
Age Range: 2-5
Summary: Trixie, holding Knuffle Bunny, and Dad, holding a laundry basket, walk down the block, go past the school and enter the laundromat. Trixie helps her Dad put the clothes in the machine, and Dad looks at her. By mistake, he picks up Knuffle Bunny and puts it in the laundromat. Dad makes Trixie put money in the machine, and they go home. Halfway there, Trixie shouts and Dad says,"We're going home." As they get home, Trixie's mom asks, "Where's Knuffle Bunny?" The three of them run down the block, through the park and zoomed past the school. Trixie's dad looked and looked and looked into the machine, and finally, he found Knuffle Bunny. Everyone was happy.
The pictures are colorful, huge and life-like. This story won a Caldecott Honor. I recommend this story to the age group.
The second book is:
Title: IT'S MY TURN
Author: David Bedford, Elaine Field
Publisher: Scholastic
Age Range: 2-5
Summary: Oscar, the dog, and Tilly, the cat are at the playground, but Tilly always wants to go first on the slide and the merry-go-round. Tilly says, "It's not your turn," and "I haven't finished." Tilly gets dizzy on the merry-go-round, and Oscar says "It's my turn." Tilly feels better and asks Oscar, "Can I slide after you?" "No, it's not your turn," Oscar says. Tilly now asks Oscar to go on the swing after him. "It's still my turn," he says. When they get to the see-saw, they realize it's fun to play together.
This book is in paperback. It has colorful, huge pictures, good dialogue and not many words per page. I recommend this book highly.
Please make certain your child reads everyday.

Do you know the titles of these 2 stories?
Dear Readers,
In a few days, I will review two more picture books: one is about a father and daughter who go to the laudromat, and they leave something behind, and the other one is about a dog and a cat that disagree about taking turns on the playground equipment.
Can you guess the titles of these stories? Maybe the authors?
I'M STILL IN THE PROCESS OF COMPLETING A CHILDREN'S PICTURE BOOK. In the meantime, I've published three poems in three different anthologies: BLESSED, COLD LEMONADE, and INTO HER EYES.
I repeat that I am also Editor of CELEBRATE LIFE, a book of poems written by the Seniors at the Mosholu Montefiore Senior Center. The author is Jorge Rivera, and it is published by Xlibris.
These seniors wrote about their life experiences, and one of them is 92 years old.
I'm so very proud of them.
So, keep on writing. You will never know when inspiration will hit you.
Read picture books to your kids every night.

MATURE AUTHORS
Dear Readers,
I had to research some of these authors. Did you know Anna Sewall wrote BLACK BEAUTY at 57? Karen Blixen, at 52, wrote OUT OF AFRICA. And, of course, we are familiar with Laura Ingalls Wilder, who wrote THE LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE series, in her 60's. That was one of my favorite television series.
So, what does this information tell us? It tells me that our dreams of becoming authors is reachable. We have to be persistent. All of us have great ideas. They just take time to develop.
God bless. Keep reading picture books to your children. Let them see you read.When they're old enough, bring them to the library and let them select the books they want to read.

MANIAC MAGEE and AND NOW MIGUEL
Dear Readers,
MANIAC MAGEE was written by Jerry Spinelli, and it is a fictional novel. There are 46 chapters, and the book is suited for grades 5, 6, 7.
This is not a picture book. I shall tell you the beginning: Magee's life was normal until his parents were killed. That's all I can say. Your child would find it quite interesting, and there are a host of themes.
....AND NOW MIGUEL was written by Joseph Quincy Krumgold. It too is a novel, one written in the first person, about Miguel's thoughts and experiences about sheepherding and his family.
This is based on a true story.
Every now and then, I will include a children's novel.
